About Chiropractic

"There is a vast difference between treating the effects and adjusting the cause"
-DD Palmer

The state of South Carolina defines Chiropractic as "that science and art which utilizes the inherent recuperative powers of the body and deals with the relationship between the nervous system and the spinal column, including its immediate articulations and the role of this relationship in the restoration and maintenance of health."

Simply put, Chiropractic allows the body to experience full life expression through the means of a chiropractic adjustment. Chiropractic adjustments remove the interference to the nervous system which can hinder the body's ability to perform at its optimum potential. These interferences to the nervous system are called "subluxations." Subluxations are when the bones of the spine misalign and put tension or pressure on the nerves or spinal cord of the nervous system. The chiropractic adjustment is meant to restore the proper position of these bones and reduce the irritation to the nervous system. This is extremely important to our overall health as the nervous system is the master controller of the body. The nervous system consists of the brain and spinal cord which is housed within the skull and spine. From the spinal cord are nerves which exit through small openings of the vertebrae (spinal bones) and go to every cell, tissue, organ, and gland of the body. Because the nervous system and spine are so intimately related, it's important that the bones maintain optimal positioning as to avoid any hindering of the functions of the nervous system.
